There are benefits to getting a guy early, meaning you have more time to explore the sexual nature of your relationship, but it's also a good idea to focus on your career early on in the year so you have the skills to pay the bills. The game takes place over the course of a year (starting in January and ending in December), and convincing a guy to become your boyfriend doesn't happen at a scripted date, meaning you can get a boyfriend early in the year or later. I want to experience the actual relationship, not just the parts leading up to the start of a relationship. A problem I have with other entries in the genre is the game ends just when you get to the good part. The game doesn't end as soon as you convince your crush to be your boyfriend. That's something that appeals to me, personally. It isn't even the protagonist's main goal. It's not terribly difficult to find the right balance, but I appreciate that the relationship aspect of the game isn't the end all be all.
